Saturday we took one look at the monster waves and our big surfing dreams for the day were quickly dashed. Wadding in the kiddie pool seemed more appropriate as the life guard boats patrolled to save people taken out to sea. The beach on Manley was packed and surfing lessons took people in by the dozens, only to crash against each other in the tide. Some friends brought wakeboards, which Jeroen tried out, but it was difficult catching the waves. After a thorough sunburning session, we had a BBQ at friends nearby where we could try out kangaroo steak. This is the first weird meat that doesn't taste like chicken! It's actually quite good, I'd say a mix between beef steak and deer meat (says the Canadian in me). But the only way to cook it is on a Beefmaster, the mother of all barbeques, the symbol of Australian cooking. Natually, it took three adult males to supervise the kangaroo roasting :)
Today the weather was supposed to be tropical rain storms, so we just had a casual walk through Hyde park. While at a cafe we saw people putting up Christmas decorations already. Wreaths, ornaments, I'm waiting for the fake snow. It's 25 degrees outside, there are palm trees, I'm in flip flops. This is weird.
