Italian weekend

Last weekend was great from start to end! Friday: We heard about Table For 20, a restaurant which tries bringing Italian eating to the masses. It's a place you heard about by word of mouth and you can only make a reservation by sending a text message to the owner. The address leads you to an unmarked alley with no signs of life...until someone emerges from the shaddows to ask if you are 'Tarra, table for 2.' After a nod, we are told to come in through an unmarked door, turn left, left again and head up the stairs. The owner replicates what dinner was at his mom's house in Italy. One large table, with everyone sharing the dishes. It's a set menu, since mama never took requests, and you are encouraged to meet the new faces at the table. We had amazing Italian food and met Irish people sitting across from us, British to the right and Aussies to the left. You're allowed to bring your own wine too. We forgot but had offers from people next to us to share!

Saturday: The day started with the usual trip to the Chinese fruit & vegetable market, but we were on a mission...we had visitors to feed! We decided to have a couple people over for dinner that evening and open the balcony for the summer season. Jeroen wanted it to be cold so we could fire up the patio heater, but it was, unfortunately, too warm :) Afterwards we headed to the closing film at the Italian Film Festival. La prima cosa bella (the first beautiful thing) was a beautiful film about a mother and her two grown children. It took home best screenplay, best actor and best actress. Needless to say, it didn't disappoint.

Sunday: Sun=beach weather...or so we thought. We took the train and then a bus to arrive at a very windy Bondi beach. We braved the wind as long as we could before grabbing a beer and some fries and heading back. However, we concluded that the sun is gaining strength and will not disappoint us in summer. And we will show our appreciation by soaking it up, big time!
